1 of the fittest man in SIngapore

Today on bus watched TV mobile and there was this programme on sports person.

The sportsman is a university lecturer and also an Ironman. What amazed me was he completed 10 deca-iron in 10 days.

The Ironman World Triathlon Championship or Ironman Triathlon is an annual triathlon race, made famous by its grueling length, race conditions, and sports television coverage.

Held every fall in the US city of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, the race encompasses three endurance events; a 2.4 mile (3.86 kilometer) ocean swim in Kailua-Kona Bay, a 112 mile (180.2 kilometer) bike ride across the Hawaiian lava desert to Hawi and back, and a 26.2 mile (42.195 kilometer) marathon along the coast of the Big Island (from Keauhou to Keahole Point to Kailua-Kona); finishing on Ali'i Drive.

The current course record was set in 1996 by Luc Van Lierde (Belgium) whose winning time was 8 hrs 4 mins 8 sec.

He is Dr Kua Harn Wei
Science ’95/’96/’99
Lecturer at Department of Building, NUS

Dr Kua Harn Wei belongs to a rare breed of sportsmen who excel equally in the sports and in their academic pursuits. Since his participation in his first Ironman World Championship (3.8km swim, 180km cycle and 42.2km run) held in Hawaii in 1997, there is no looking back. Dr Kua has since moved on to become the first Singaporean to complete a Double Ironman World Championship (twice the Ironman distance) in 2003. In 2005, he set a new Asian record in the Quintuple Ironman World Championship held in Mexico. His outstanding performance moved him to the 6th position in the 2005 International Ultra Triathlon Association world ranking. In 2006, he became the first Asian to complete the Deca-Iron Triathlon World Challenge, emerging 7th overall and top his age-group in the final day’s race.

Dr Kua was the immediate past chairperson of the NUS Alumni Chapter in Massachusetts, USA, and was instrumental in the formation of this overseas alumni chapter.

In recognition of his outstanding accomplishments and sustained service to the alumni community, the University is pleased to present to Dr Kua Harn Wei the NUS Outstanding Young Alumni Award.

“NUS provided me with an excellent support system that spurs me to reach out a bit further every time I do what I truly enjoy and believe in. This inspires me to do my own part, to contribute in my own unique ways, to the university and alumni communities.

NUS has grown in many ways; its growth means the advancement of the society in many aspects. My aspiration for my alma mater is to keep providing more students with an excellent, stimulating education opportunity and encouraging them to set new limits in all aspects of human endeavours morally and honestly. This is also the aspiration I have for myself as an Assistant Professor and a proud alumnus, because ultimately each one of us makes up NUS’ past, present and future.”

They always say mind over body and this person had trained his body and mind to surpass beyond normal humans.

In the show when he was interviewed, he mentioned he would be cycling on the stationary bike for 12hs. One of his sleep deprivation method is to excerise for 48hs without sleep.

This man had proved nothing is impossible, when you set your mind and heart to it.

My friend Jimmy always say our body is a temple, its up to us to glorify it.
